Like.com sucks as an image search engine

Techcrunch boasts it as being the first True Visual search engine. I search for Tom Cruise and i get one results. So what is like.com ? Its not an image search engine for sure. Even from a star struck teenagers perspective, there is no way a user can search for the ear ring Paris Hilton is wearing at tmz.com’s website on Like.com. So i don’t get what’s behind all this hype.

looks like you drew a wrong impression from tech crunch and set the expectations wrong. Like.com is not s image search engine like google images or yahoo images. It is a shopping site.
The celebrity photograph in the first page is just one way to start the search.
All the hype for this site is because of the technology involved in doing visual similarity of the objects. Once you kind of decide what we want ( say watch with brown leather strap) you can find all th e watches for the affiliated dealers which look similar.
Further you can say draw a box around dial which has a cartoon in it and make sure that you search is more refined.( Lot more difficult if ever possible in text based search ).
If the intention is to find a celebrity photo, this site is never gonna offer that. Further there is no ability to upload our own photos and search similar things though the company says its working to add this feature.
