Satyam, Infosys, TCS polishing factories ?

On an article about labor shortages threatening Indian IT industry, came across a very interesting quote by Ramalinga Raju, effectively terming Satyam, Infy, TCS, Wipro to be polishing factories

“But most of these are uncut diamonds that have to go through polishing factories, as the trade requires only polished stones.

How true, “most” Software Programmers look at these companies as stepping stones to big IT multilantionals like IBM, Oracle, Microsoft or SAP. One of the major reasons for Indian IT professionals to stick to likes of Wipro’s and INFY’s is the much dangled carrot of “On-Site” assignment. Take out the onsite component, the choice workplace will be one of the MNC’s for a lot of these IT professionals.

The supply shortfall is even more acute in mid-level jobs, like software engineers. Salaries in this segment are rising an average 20 percent a year, and in some segments even 50 percent annually.

Well, atleast the H1B quota limitations benefit these companies in some areas, talented middle level IT professionals find it difficult to come to US, so end up working at these polishing factories and get polished further.

  1. These days the Carrot of Onsite is not very compelling. More and more people are peffering to work in India as the salaries are very good.

So to this Indian companies are also changing face by giving more compensation to match with the MNC’s

  2. best regards, nice info » » »
