Infosys in Trouble ?

Via Wadias , Infosys seems to be in a spot of bother regarding overtime wages for H1B workers and for employees based in the US. Lawyers and Settlements website has more details regarding the class action lawsuit being considered against Infosys for possible violation of California labor Laws. The website is requesting other Infosys employees in California who are not receiving overtime wages to register and become a part of the lawsuit.

I have the highest regard for Infosys when it comes to treatment of employees and I am sure they are doing the best to rectify the situation. But on the other hand, I am not very sure the employees , more specifically the managers or account managers are made sufficiently aware about the labor laws prevailing in USA. To the best of my knowledge none of the Indian companies give any kind of training, informing the employees and their managers about the rights / labor laws prevailing in the USA. Based on the my past experience I haven’t heard the other big three, Wipro , Satyam and TCS paying overtime wages to employees. Lack of knowledge of Labor Laws prevent employees from taking any kind of action. But as the Indian companies start expanding their workforce to get into consulting, employing local US talent they have to be more stringent in following these rules. I wonder how this overtime issue would impact their billing rates in fixed bid projects ?

Update: TCS is also facing a class action lawsuit.

Searching for Infosys on Google brings up this ad by “Lawyers and Settlements”. If I were Infosys , I wouldn’t like that.

  1. Employees in other technology companies are also facing the same problem. I am earning 37 dollars an hour and working almost 12 hours a day in a well reputed semiconductor company in california. On the next door nurses earning 40 dollars an hour working 12 hours a day and earning overtime. How can we solve this problem on a massive scale.
