Google Automat

Inside Google reports Google Automat, "providing on-line user-assisted Web-based advertising". This is complete follow through advertising, for small advertisers who do not maintain websites but want to provide more information. My gut feeling is Automat will provide a landing page for advertisers who do not have their own websites or want to provide a landing page for a specific promotion with promotional details and call in numbers . In addition I reckon this would contain "Click to call" (Google Talk) feature sometine in the future where by the calls can be routed to the number mentioned on this landing screen. Perhaps, the briefly live Google Base or Google classified can be used for creation of these ad's . These ad's can have limited lifetime (like promotional coupons), especially useful to place quick ads in Google Local search. THe call through feature if incorporated will be on the lines of Ingenio Pay per call offering.
A lot of chatter related to this patent centers around how it is going to compete with Craigs list. Since these ad's are to appear in the Google Search screen, they have to be paid , so it cannot be free classified like craigs list. So at this stage, to me it appears Google Automat is more of an effort of bringing small advertisers who are left out from "ad click" concept because they don't have websites and can't sell directly online.
