San Francisco-wide free wifi network

Came across breaking news on Om Maliks blog, about google bidding to offer WIFI service in San Francisco !! Very interesting piece of news indeed, with Google VPN client in beta . How about a Google Talk version for the hand helds and then you can talk to your contact over the hand held? Do we still need a cell phone or can Google Talk on wifi enabled hand helds eliminate the need ? Sounds very far-fetched but definitely seems like a possibility. So whats next , Google Phone ?
And why not, I reckon in the future Mobile phones with WIFI features can use Gtalk for calling contacts long as it is in a WiFI hotspot. If all of my contacts are on GTalk then it is virtually free to call anybody. Google Maps, can further provide location based services which are far greater than what the GPS providers can ever dream of providing. If I were Garminor or any other GPS provider, I would be very afraid.
